Instead of pulling over when a mountain looms in the distance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], downshifting gears and slowing down a bit allows me to cross obstacles in my path. Sometimes I travel uphill more slowly than I’d like. Life will always have its ups and downs. We get to choose if we will pull over and get off the path, or just keep on riding. Even if we fall off we can get back on. We only lose when we stop pedaling.
The last flaming colors of autumn had fallen and were covered with touches of snow still remaining from Friday morning’s passing storm. The first ice of winter was desperately clinging to the rocks as it tried to form a crust on the top of the flowing waters. It wasn’t until we were in the car heading back home that I had a realization. You probably know by now that I think almost everything relates metaphorically to my life. In the car on our way home, we were at the base of a very large hill and my first thought was downshift quickly! Although my husband was driving our car,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in my mind I was still on my bike. It struck me how I was dealing with and preparing for the situation as if I were on autopilot.
Yesterday my husband and I went for a bicycle ride through the outskirts of downtown Boulder. It was one of those picture-perfect crisp autumn days filled with clear cool mountain air, bright sunshine and Nature at her finest. The paved bike path meanders through city and wooded park areas, back and forth over Boulder Creek and up and down small hills at the base of the Rocky Mountains.
Just like when a mountain appears on the road in our life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], do we pull over with frustration, or just downshift and keep going? I strive to be like my 21-speed bike. I have speeds that I travel on flat, safe and predictable places in my life. I also have brakes for the downhill treks when life comes racing at me too fast. And most importantly, I have gears for the uphill times so that I can keep going.

5. Balance Time

Whether your clutter is stacks of magazines and papers, boxes of books, hanging on walls, magnetized to the refrigerator or is piles of clothes you never wear; sort it, organize it and put it away or “get rid of it.”
When there is a lot of chaos in these areas the consequences will be a less productive low energy discouraged you. To help you get motivated, think of clutter as energy constipation preventing you from creating the life you want.
8. Create Supportive Surroundings
Nurturing energy in your personal environment is mandatory especially when times are financially stressful. To get in control of your future, to create what you want so you can thrive and not succumb to the doom and gloom try the following.
• Paint the walls in your home pastel warm colors in the earth tones family – get rid of the high energy unfriendly cold whites and brights. If this is not possible,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], use a few accents in these colors such as throws, pillows and pictures to shift your energy.

• Make an intentions board out of a simple bulletin board with push pins. Place onto it pictures, symbols or words of the three to five most important things you want to create in your future. Hang this board where you will see it daily for encouragement.

10. One Size Doesn’t Fit All
Each person needs their own specific plan to overcome their stress. Finally, the debriefing process allows leaders to create trust with nameless and rankless debrief sessions in which team members develop lessons learned from the execution process. Those lessons learned should be applied to future operations. After creating a plan, leaders should communicate this plan through briefing. It’s important that the leaders brief what they’re going to do that day. Organizational leadership leverages formal briefings to inform participants of the plan and to describe each individual’s roles and actions within that plan, developing Situational Awareness and aligning the immediate objective with those of the team or organization’s long-term objectives to improve safety levels.
Effective organizational leadership relies on creating an environment and modeling behavior that is conducive to achieving mission objectives. In order to improve safety, leaders must focus on day-to-day operations and closing execution gaps by aligning their teams and building trust on a daily basis. If you focus on improving the day-to-day basic operations of your organization, you will find that your safety records will improve as a result.
To improve safety, leaders should follow the Flawless Execution(SM) process of Plan, Brief, Execute, and Debrief on a daily basis. Leaders must implement an organization-wide planning process that is simple and scalable at all levels - whether planning at the highest organizational level or for the simplest daily tasks.

In the quest to improve safety records, organizations often rely on motivational posters, classes or training programs to help teams minimize risk and improve safety performance. However, great safety records are not achieved through these efforts alone. The secret is training those front-line leaders in a simple, scalable process. The pursuit of operational excellence through such leadership training is the key to improving safety records.

When you practice and use your natural skills they develop with a subtle complexity that an acquired skill just can’t. When applying natural skills you perform with an unconscious ease that allows for creativity and inventiveness. The number of people I encounter daily that don’t like what they do always amazes me. Remember the important difference between natural and acquired skills is not that you can do one but not the other because you can do both – most of us do. The truth is we all have to take on a few acquired skills to function in the world. The important difference is that the innate capacity we have for our natural skills makes them easier to develop, more enjoyable to perform,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and in the long run they provide more opportunity for meaning in your life.
So, yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], most of us have to acquire some skills that are not innate and with enough training we can learn to do them just fine. But no amount of facility and training will help us learn to love them. There is something in the challenges that I have often pondered. It seems that there is something about the idea of enjoying what you do,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of doing what comes easily,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and building your life and/or career around it that feels wrong to many people. I could wax philosophically about where it comes from,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but that doesn’t really matter. I have encountered the phenomenon so often to know it to be true. To a great extent we embrace the idea that if something is fun and easy it can’t have much value or that using it is some kind of cosmic “cheating.” We believe that if it is not “hard work” then it isn’t work at all.

Ko Se-hoon had hoped to return to school this fall semester, but instead he is taking another six months�� leave. One of 21 Koreans taken hostage by Taliban militants in Afghanistan in July, Ko came back home on Sept. 2 after 42 days of detention, but the nightmares persist. There was not a moment he felt free from condemnation for defying a government travel ban to the war-torn country with his group of evangelical Christians and causing trouble for the nation.
